PRESERVING MODERN ARCHITECTURE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY
Bringing the significance of architecture to the public eye by documenting modernist buildings at peril.
IMA is a collective of experts, enthusiasts, and modern-architecture connoisseurs dedicated to the conservation of modern buildings that are at risk. Together with the IMA we formed the ARCHive initiative, which documents the current profile of architecture built from the 1950s to 1990s in the East of Slovakia. Vrstvy's systematic documentation and mapping of the buildings became a crucial part of this movement.
For this project, we actively researched and studied this era of history so as to ensure the most authentic and credible image and representation of this kind of architecture. We focused on the whole venues just as much as depicting the fine details, and went behind-the-scenes and beyond-the-seen. We believe photography is an indispensable tool for preserving this heritage for future generations, and so we wanted to foster an interest in preserving these buildings’ significant meaning.
