WHEN A CEREAMIST CREATES ARTWORKS SOLELY TO SUPPORT PHOTOGRAPHED OBJECT
Thinking about clay as the skin and playing with its mouldable shape, Vrstvy worked with a ceramist to create a beauty editorial for this range of cosmetic brands.
The fashion magazine Top Fashion wanted to feature a range of natural cosmetics as part of its summer 2021 edition. We were asked to prepare a beauty editorial together with an established ceramicist, using artwork she had already created. As usual, we took the quest further, and proposed an idea to create new abstract shapes made of clay that were designed purposefully to support the cosmetic products, rather than using existing artworks with their already formed shapes.
The job of a photographer is to think conceptually and adopt the right approach towards artistic creation. Raw clay, a symbol of nature, allowed us to play with and create various shapes, objects, and backgrounds thanks to its mouldable character. Both the process and the result were strongly influenced by the artist, sculptress, and ceramicist Kata Bajkay, whose signature style and thematic use of “inner caves we all carry within” can be sensed strongly in this editorial work.
We're ready to work on your inspiring, edgy and kick-ass ideas.
